Preparation & Sanding Booths
In many installations, it is necessary to consider the effect of increased production by moving some operations from the paint booth to the prep booth. Such things as sanding, stripping, and masking are better performed in a separate booth. This has the advantage of isolating dirty operations such as stripping and sanding from the clean operation of painting. In addition, the use of a prep booth will allow operation at lower energy levels. The prep booth does not require the high airflow of the paint booth.
The use of a prep booth also allows for higher production rates. The paint booth is not monopolized for non-painting duties, so an aircraft may be prepped and then moved to the paint booth for painting, thus cutting the overall time in shop in half.
This is especially true at manufacturers of aircraft and at large exterior MROs where efficiency is very important. |
